Iran says a CIA collaborator and a member of the terrorist group Mujahedin Khalq Organization (MKO) have been arrested in connection with riots in Tehran. |
(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Iran's Intelligence Minister Heidar Moslehi said on Thursday the MKO member was responsible for the shootings during rush-hour disturbances on February 14.
"The culprit was trying to escape the country, but he was arrested by the Intelligence Ministry's forces," said the minister.
"So far, he has provided very good information to our security forces," Moslehi added.
The violence in the Iranian capital left two people dead and several others injured.
The Intelligence Ministry announced earlier that Tehran University student Sane' Jalleh, one of the shooting victims, was assassinated by MKO members.
The minister noted that an Iranian national cooperating with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States was also arrested.
"He was receiving information from the riot scenes through several people and forwarding them to the CIA," said Moslehi.
Supporters of defeated presidential candidates in Iran's 2009 election, Mir-Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi, as well as some MKO members gathered in small numbers in a few parts of Tehran on February 14 in an attempt to ignite a riot.
Tehran says American and other Western NGOs and other institutions provided financial, planning and media support for the post-election unrest in Iran in 2009 in an attempt to topple the Islamic establishment.
