Sheikh Al-Amiri Returns To His Lord

Verily we are from Allah and to Him do we return. It is with deep sadness and grief that the AhlulBayt Islamic Mission offers its condolences to the Imam of our time (may Allah hasten his return) and the Ummah at large on the demise of his Eminence Sheikh Muhammad Ali Al-Amri.

Sheikh Al-Amri, one of the most prominent Shi'a scholars in Saudi Arabia, passed away in the early hours of Monday 24th January 2011 in the holy city of Madina. Widely acclaimed for his knowledge, generosity and virtue, Sheikh Al-Amri was viewed as a father figure for Shi'as in Saudi Arabia.

The late Sheikh Al-Amri was born in the year 1911 in the holy city of Madina. At the early age of 16, he travelled to the holy city of Najaf under the guidance of his father, Sheikh Ali bin Ahmad Al-Amri, in order to pursue further Islamic studies. In the precincts of the shrine of the Commander of the Faithful, Imam Ali (a), the late Sheikh studied under several notable scholars including: Sayyed Muhammad Baqir Al-Shakhs, Sheikh Muhammad Taqi Al-Faqih, Sheikh Hussain Al-Hilli and Sheikh Muhammad Jawad Mughniyeh.

Upon his return to Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Al-Amri played a critical role in the religious education and social upliftment of its Shi'a community. Indeed, due to his unparalleled efforts – spanning decades – the name of the late Sheikh has today become synonymous with tireless service and endless generosity.

As a testimony to his knowledge, piety and lofty character, the late Sheikh was the designated representative of several past and contemporary Maraje Taqleed; from Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Abul Hasan Al-Isfahani to Grand Ayatollah Ali Al-Seestani.

The funeral of the late Sheikh is expected to take place on Thursday. We request all believers to recite Surat Al-Fatiha.

Wa Min Allah Al-Tawfiq.

Wasalaamu Alaikum.
